QARA SHANI

Category: The local grape varieties

Its history is unknown because this clone has been grown since old times. It's Apsheron's local clone. It is grown in every places of the republic though the bushes are rare. But it is grown in all the villages of Apsheron, in Salyan and Ordubad regions. It has been grown in Astrakhan and Volgograd provinces for more than hundred years.
Like Ag Shani, its shoots and leaves are bright velvet with white nuances. But in Qara Shani, spur crown and first leaves are light pink.
Bushes grow rapidly and they demand cordon or combined forms. Flowers are self pollinated. Female's mouth is light yellow. Clusters are in different size: small, medium and large. It is cylindrical and cylindrical cone-shaped and in medium density. Cluster stem gets firm. Seeds are in medium large and large round and symmetric, a little bit oval. When begins to ripen it can be light red. But it can be dark blue when it ripens fully. Seeds have thick layer of wax. Languid is juicy, fleshy. Juice is grayish blue. Taste is pleasant.
