CHARAZ

Category: The local grape varieties

It is Uzbekistan's clone and cultivated in Tashkent, Namanqan, Farqana and Samarkand in larger scale. In Azerbaijan, it is planted in Khachmaz district, in wine collections including the collection of Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute.
Bushes are strong.
Flowers are of functional female type. Clusters are big, cone-shaped or cylindrical cone-shaped, usually have dense burdocks especially when cross-pollinated. Seeds are medium-large, large, weak-oval, tiny and dark blue. Skin is a bit thick but not rough. Languid is fleshy and juicy. When seeds break out from the stalk small light brushes remain in clusters. Taste is ordinary and sourness is in harmony with sugar.
Charaz is early ripening table grape. This type is valued for its early-ripening, beauty and for its large clusters and seeds.

PINK TAYFI

Tayfi is the best table sort of Uzbekistan. It is brought to Arabia from Bukhara and Samargand in VII centuries. Pink Tayfi is grown in many winegrowing countries of the world. White Tayfi is not cultivated as much. Pink Tayfi is also called Gold Tayfi. At present, it is grown in Ganja winegrowing and winemaking experimental station and Grape-trading LTD.
Bushes are very strong. Flowers are self-pollinated. Clusters of both sorts are big and very big. It is wide cone-shaped from the stock, upper burdocks are developed, rare and medium dense. Bunch stock gets firm, it is advisable not to cut them with knife or scissors. Seeds are big, prolonged, oval or cylindrical. Sometimes three sides look pressed. The color of White Tayfi is white green, a bit pink in the sun. The color of Pink Tayfi is not equal; it changes its shades from pink to violet in the sun, and light pink in shadowy places. Skin is thick and firm. Languid is crispy. Taste is ordinary, pleasant and fresh.
The sort ripens late. High temperature is demanded to obtain a fine color of seeds and producing enough sugar. Productivity is high when the irrigation is normally provided in strong forms of sprouts with tall stakes. There are few productive shoots in this sort and bunches are also fewer but the size of bunches are large. Stocks are small in vineyards with poor irrigation and light forms. Sugar is 17-20 percent in Uzbekistan clone. It is possible to get sugar productivity increased if cultivated by means of directed planting in the republic.
White Tayfi differs with high endurance to shipment among table sorts.
Pink Tayfi is good for drying, but for productivity, lags behind Sultani and Kurgan sorts.

PINK SAVANYIN

Category: The local grape varieties

It is a French clone. It is planted in the basin of the river Rhine. It is brought to Azerbaijan from Novocherkassk. Bushes are characteristically of mid-ripening. Flowers are self-pollinated. Clusters are tiny, cone shaped and winged. Seeds are tiny and dark pink. Skin is medium; languid is fleshy, juicy and a little bit smooth. Taste is pleasant and fragrant. It is late ripening wine sort. Less sensitive to gray rotting and oidium. It grows well in lime-lands and durable to other fungal deceases.
Table wines of high quality are prepared. When cultivated in hot places, its flavor either gets decreased or disappears.

PINK MUSCAT

Category: The local grape varieties

It is called red Muscat, Muscat Frontinyanski in the Crimea. It was brought to the Crimea at the end of XVIII and in mid- XIX centuries to Azerbaijan. It has been grown in old winegrowing economy and produced of qualified vines.
Bushes grow rapidly.
Flowers are self-pollinated. The cluster is medium large, cylindrical or cylindrical cone-shaped. Seeds are medium large, round and black is covered with thick wax layer. Skin is gentle, enough firm, the languid is easily separated from the skin. The languid is juicy, gentle with Muscat flavor.
It can be gathered about 30 percent in the Crimea, 26 percent in Ganja, 25 percent in Shamakhi.
Pink Muscat is said to be the clone vine of mechanic structure. Portvein & Cherez are produced from Pink Muscat. Quality wines of portvein have been produced from it in Mil, Azerbaijan sovkhoz (state farm) and in Shamakhi, too.

PINK MOZAK

It is a French sort. It came to Western Europe from France but wasn't widely spread. It was brought to Novocherkassk in 1960 and from Novocherkassk to agricultural enterprise of Govlar-Sari of the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute in 1969.
Bushes are strong.
Flowers are pollinated themselves. Clusters are big, cylindrical and thick. Seeds are medium, round, a little bit ellipse-shaped, and pink. Languid is fleshy juicy. Skin is not rough. Taste is ordinary, lovely and fresh. Late ripening grape sort. It gives normal crop in limy soil.
White table wine is made from this sort.

PINK CLERET

It's being cultivated in France since 1958. This sort is called Cleret B in France. I 1969, it was brought from Novocherkassk to Agricultural Experiments Enterprise Govlar-Sari of Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute.
Bushes are strong.
Flowers get pollinated themselves. Cluster is large, wide cone-shaped, burdock is from the base but rare. Seeds are normal, round, a little bit pressed, dark pink, the skin is medium thick, the languid is fleshy, and the taste is ordinary but fresh. It's a late ripening grape sort. Mostly white table and dessert wines are made of it.

CHAUSH

Category: The local grape varieties

Its homeland is Asia Minor. It was brought to the South Crimea then to North Caucasus and Ukraine. Afterwards it was brought to Krasnodar and Stavropol. It has different variations. Black Chaush, pink and white Chaush. Nowadays a few bushes are grown in Ganja Grape-trading LTD.
Bushes are strong. Flowers are functional female type. Clusters are medium and big, cylindrical-cone shaped, if cross pollinated well. They get thick, when pollinated not artificially. They are rare and very seedy. Berries are very big, oval, eggshaped, greenish white, when fully ripen it becomes golden-yellow in the sun. Skin is medium thick, not rough, when eating can be divided into parts easily; actually the skin is not felt. Languid is fleshy-juicy. Taste is ordinary, not too sweet, very delicate and harmonious. White Chaush is typical table grape. The taste is so specific that can easily be recognized when eating without looking at the grape. It is fully ripen in Crimea at the end of August, in Ganja in the middle of August. Productivity is high. But productivity is not stable depending on the normal watering and pollination. We don't pollinate artificially. Together with other sorts normal crop can be cultivated.
It is early ripen table grape.

BUYET

Widely spread in Southwest of France. It has begun cultivated since 1958. It was brought from France to Bulgaria, and from Bulgaria to the enterprise Govlar-Sari of the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute in 1969.
Bushes are of medium growth. Flowers are self-pollinated. Cluster is large, cone shaped and has burdocks with little dens. Seeds are large, with a light hollow in the tip, dark blue. Skin is medium thick, elastic; wax layer is thick, too. Languid is fleshy and juicy. Taste is ordinary but pleasant.
Late ripening wine sort. They produce medium quality and less sour wines from them. High-productive, with specific bitter taste.
It is sensitive to gray carious plant decease.

BILAGANI

The homeland is Lower Shirvan region of Azerbaijan. It is mainly cultivated in Goychay and surrounding regions and also in vine collections.
Bushes grow rapidly. In Goychay, it is mainly cultivated in garrets and mobile.
Flowers are self-pollinated. Clusters are large, sometimes very large, mainly cone-shaped, seldom burdock is dense. Seeds are medium-large and large, when the load of vineyard is great. During the abundant yield of grapevines, the grapes become oval and round, dark brown or dark red. Skin is usually thick and rough. Languid is firm, less juicy. Taste is pleasant and harmonious.
It is a late ripening table grape. Among the clones, it is more suitable for storage and shippable. With the help of local national technology and growing method, it can be stored till Novruz (national spring festivities) holiday.

PURPLE EARLY RIPENING

It was produced as a result of cross pollination of Northern Grape (Malengr tochmakari and V.Amurenzis) and Hamburg muskrat clones by Russian Scientific-Research Winegrowing and Winemaking Institute (Novocherkassk) in 1947.
It is cultivated in Russia, Moldova and Ukraine. It was in grape collections of Azerbaijan.
Bushes are strong.
Flowers are self-pollinated. Cluster is medium, cone-shaped and rare. Seeds are medium, round, with Muscat flavor and dark purple. Languid is juicy. Frost-resisting ability is high. Productivity is high, too. It is referred to early ripening purple table wine clones. It is ripen in the middle of August and at this time sugar level reaches 22 percent. It is used while fresh and for making dessert wines.
