HUSEYNI

Category: The local grape varieties

It is of Middle-Asia origin. It is an Arabic name and it means beauty and goodness. It is spread in Uzbekistan, in most regions of Azerbaijan and in Shamkir. It has many variations. Huseyni Lyunda is one of them and its seeds are cylindrical white, thin, narrow, pink Huseyni is like Huseyni Lyunda, but it is pink. Huseyni Lyunda is widely spread. This is the sort that has been described. Bushes grow rapidly. It looks like Kordon forms.
Flowers are self-pollinated. Clusters are long, narrow-cone shaped, most times have wings hanging on the sides of stalks. It is not very dense. Stalk breaks easily. Seeds are large.
The main variation Huseyni Lyunda has long seeds with cylindrical rounded tips. In most cases seeds are crystal green. Skin is gentle and elastic. Languid is fleshy, juicy and taste is ordinary. Sugar and acidity is balanced if well ripen. Sourness prevails if not fully ripen. Huseyni is one of the most beautiful clones according to its appearance. In Uzbekistan, it is in the second place after the White Kishmish for its popularity.
Huseyni is a typical table sort and requires much heat.

HAMASHARA

Category: The local grape varieties

It is Azerbaijan's local clone. It was obtained by means of natural pollination of wild grapes in the forests of Hamshara River in Jalilabad district and was grown by local population. It grew in the villages of Jalilabad region. Hamshara clone is grown only in few regions. In the 60-70s of the last century in Jalilabad 30-40 percent of this grape plants consisted of this clone. Bushes grow fast. Flowers are self-pollinated. Clusters are large, round, reddish black and covered with thin layer of wax. Skin is thick, not strong, languid is tough and flesh is crunchy. Taste is pleasant, sweet and harmonious. Juice is thick, not so colored, reddish pink. It is an early ripening vine clone. This clone is good for producing red table wine and dessert wine of kagor type.

ARNA-GUIRNA

It is the local sort of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Mostly cultivated in Sharur, Sadarak, Babak and Ordubad districts but very little in small collections.
Bushes grow rapidly.
Flowers are of functional female type. The cluster is large, cone-shaped, sometimes with burdocks, medium dense and rare. Seeds are medium large, round, a little pressed in dense clusters, yellowish white, with weak wax layer. Skin is normal but elastic. The languid is fleshy and juicy, a little bit firm and of yellowish color. The taste is ordinary, pleasant and fresh. Late ripening universal sort. Productivity is high and stable. Mostly with technical direction. Fits for table and dry wines.

MUSKAT OF HAMBURG

The clone was obtained by pollinating Alexandria Muscat and Frankental sorts in greenhouses in England. Later it was cultivated in West European countries in natural condition. In 1960 it was brought to Azerbaijan.
Flowers are self - pollinated. But it is inclined to over shedding its blooms and becoming knotted.
Clusters are winged and cone-shaped. It is of medium density and sometimes rare. Its seeds are of different bigness through the years, it is rounded, purple-blue and covered with gray-blue wax layer. It has got wonderful appearance. And it has Muscat flavor.
According to its mechanical composition, it is a table wine. But in comparison with other grapes the capacity of the juice dropped out is rather plenty. Juice of Muscat flavor and dessert wines are made of this grape clone. Fruitfulness is medium. As well as other Muscat sorts, the Muscat of Hamburg has high coefficient of fruitfulness. When the clusters are pulled up in blossom, the clusters grow with normal density and yield high quality grapes.

GEZAL GARA (BEAUTIFUL BLACK)

It was gained by the cross pollination of the sorts Katta Kurqan and Dodrelyabi in the experimental Station of Middle Asia of All-Union Plant Institution in 1950. It is spread in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Moldova, and in other winegrowing regions of Russia. In 1969, it was brought to Khachmaz region of Azerbaijan Republic. It grows rapidly. Flowers are self-pollinated. Clusters are very big, cone shaped, winged, sometimes cylindrical, and dense. Seed stalk is long. Seeds are very big and rounded or oval, thick wax layered and dark blue. Skin is tender, not tough. Languid is of tender composition, fleshy and juicy, feels rumpled while eating. Its juice is colorless. It is a table grape ripened in the middle period. It is of high productivity. In Uzbekistan conditions 220-240 metric centner of harvest is gained from a hectare. Average weight of clusters is 590-680 grams. The number of fruitful spurs is 42,5-55,2 percent.

GOLD GRAPE OF GANJA

Its homeland is Ganja and surrounding regions. Widely spread in private vineyards and gardens. It was never cultivated for industrial purposes.
Nowadays there are several bushes of this clone in Grape-trading LTD (only several bushes).
Flowers are self-pollinated. Clusters are medium but large, cylindrical, cone-shaped, rare. Seeds are large, round with dense wax layer, brown, sometimes dark-pink. Skin is medium thick and fragile. Languid is firm, less juicy, taste is pleasant and sweet.
Late ripening type of table wines. It is well kept on bushes and stored in warehouses.
Productivity is high, but not stable. Contains 16-18 percent of sugar.

ASKARI

Askari is Iran clone taken from the word askar soldier. It is called Askari also in Turkmenistan. Askari is mainly cultivated in several vine-growing regions and private collections of NAR (Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic).
Flowers are self-pollinated. Cluster is medium or medium-large, cone-shaped or wide cone-shaped, rare. The stalk of cluster is pale green and grass shaped. Easily plucked. Seeds are medium-size, green-yellow. Covered with weak wax layer. Languid is juicy, sugar is in medium degree. The percentage of sugar is 22 in Nakchivan clones and taste is ordinary. High quality of raisin is made from Askari. But in other regions the clones of Askari are considered to be useful while fresh It is referred to easy ripening types. Bushes grow moderately. Well cultivated on spaylers and garrets. Demands medium large forms.

EKIQAYNAN

It is produced in result of the cross-pollination of Qana N and Kaberne Savinyon in France. Cultivated in many countries like Ukraine, the Crimea, Novocherkassk, Russia. In 1969, it was brought to the enterprise Govlar-Sari of Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute.
Bushes grow medium.
Grow and yields by means of self- pollination of flowers. Cluster is medium, wide-cone-shaped, from the base, grow with burdock and wings, from the middle - changes its shape and becomes cylindrical with medium density. Seeds are medium, large, dark blue/black with dense wax layer; skin is medium thick. Languid is fleshy-juicy, a little slimy. Taste is ordinary, pleasant and fresh. Juice is colored.
Medium late ripening. Dark colored, a little saucy and usually light wines are produced of it. Not sensitive to diseases.

DARBANDI

Darbendi is the local sort of Azerbaijan. It is mainly cultivated in the gardens and vine collections of Apsheron, Salyan, Nefchala, Alibayramli.
Bushes are strong.
Flowers are self-pollinated. Clusters are medium large, cone-shaped with less frequent burdocks, but medium density and rare. Seeds are prolonged or weak egg-shaped, red with blue background. Skin is thick and rough. Languid is firm, less juicy. Taste is ordinary, pleasant and fresh.
Late ripening table grape. Productivity is medium but stable. Sugar is up to 20 percent in Salyan clones.
It has little endurance to mildew and other fungal plant diseases.

GULABI OF DAGHESTAN

It is late ripening table wine sort of Daghestan. Widely spread in Daghestan, Chechnya and Ingushetiya. According to the information given by A.M.Negrul, the Gulabi of Daghestan is the bud mutation of White Gulabi. Bushes grow rapidly. Demands medium size fruitful spurs. Bushes have longer life and productivity if formed as a fan with long arms. Flowers get pollinated by themselves. Cluster is medium large and large. The stalk of the cluster remains like grass when the seeds are fully ripen, but the part that is joined to the shoot is ripen about 1 centimeters.
Seeds are medium large and round. Some seeds are inclined to flatness. The color is mostly pink, but there is light purple color in the pink background in some seeds. The percentage of sugar is 18-20.
Table and dessert wines and also high quality light pink juice are made of Gulabi.
Good to eat while fresh and for storage as well.
Productivity is medium or high. It changes according to the rate of the fertility of the soil and correct application of agricultural technology.
