ZEYNABI

Category: The local grape varieties

It's a local sort of Azerbaijan. There is no information about the origin of the sort. It was brought to the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute (Ganja, Kharaba yeri village) vine collection after being cultivated only in Aghdam region in mid-1940s. In mid –1960s, the wine collection was abandoned under the constructions of buildings and there wasn't a new vineyard until 1969.
Bushes of Zeynabi grow rapidly. Flowers are self-pollinated. Bunches are big, cone-shaped, and not dense. Stalk remains tender. Seeds are big and oval shaped and pink. Skin is of medium thickness, firm; its wax layer is medium thick and can easily be separated from the skin. Languid is fleshy, a little juicy and the taste is ordinary.
After being gathered, it can be preserved for a long time and transported to distant destinations. Becomes fully ripen at the end of September. Medium weight bunches reach 210-260 grams. It contains 15-18 percent sugar.

UNI BLAN

The homeland is Italy. In France there are large vineyards of this clone. It's widely spread in Europe. It has been brought to Azerbaijan from Krasnodar.
Bushes grow rapidly.
Flowers are self-pollinated. The bunches are big and very big, winged, and look like the tail of fox. Seeds are tiny and medium sized, round, oval, yellowish white, it gets pink in the sun. Skin is gentle. Languid is flashy and juicy. Taste is ordinary but lovely.
This clone of grape is of late ripening. It's productive. In sandy and gravelly soil, it grows well. White table wine, also highly qualified vodka is made from this sort.

TABRIZI

Category: The local grape varieties

It is one of the high quality table grapes of Azerbaijan. It is called Tabrizi since it has been created. Widely-spread in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Dagestan. It is also planted in Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Middle Asia republics. It has many synonyms. In all the gardens and agricultural farms in Ganja, one can come across with Tabrizi sort. In ancient times, Azerbaijan and Iran had close trade relations and the sort takes its name from there.
Bushes grow rapidly. Flowers get pollinated themselves. Clusters are big, cone shaped and thick.
Seeds are big, oval, when fully ripen it is light golden. Skin is thick and elastic, and covered with firm wax layer. Languid is juicy. Taste is ordinary, harmonious and fresh. Some of the features of Tabrizi sort and its medical characteristics have not been fully studied.
In the world winegrowing, Shasla is called medical grape. If Tabrizi is studied thoroughly, and propagandized duly, it can be accepted as a privileged one. Though Tabrizi is one of the valuable sorts of the republic and the most valuable grape of Ganjabasar area, it has not been studied well.
In 1940, discovered were three variations of the Tabrizi sort. Later, in 1980, we have established two another sorts of it.
Cluster and seeds of one variation is big, while the other differs with the color of leaves and shoots (both are dark).
Mid-ripen and mid-productivity sort. Transportable and shippable.
As was noted by R.A.Mammadov, of the studied variations A, B, C, well-stored is the variation A.
We have established that the Tabrizi sort is kept normally in water till late May.

EARLY RIPENING RED VELTELINER

Category: The local grape varieties

The homeland is suggested to be North Italy. It has been cultivated in France since 1958. It was not a widely spread clone. Brought to Novocherkassk, and then to the enterprise "Govlar-Sari” of the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute in 1969.
Bushes grow medium.
Flowers are self-pollinated. Clusters are small, cone shaped, cone-cylindrical and dense. Seeds are small, a bit oval and pink. Skin is medium thick. Languid is fleshy and sweet, smooth. Taste is ordinary, pleasant and fragrant.
Too sensitive to some plant deceases as Mildew and odium and suffers from gray carious. Late ripening sort. Flavored wines are made of it.

FAST RIPENING CPI

A selection sort. Was obtained from cross pollination of White Chaush and Black Kishmishi (A.M.Negrul and M.S.Iuravel) in Middle Asia experiments station (Tashkent) of the All-Union Plant Institute. Mostly spread in Uzbekistan. In 1961, it was brought to Terter district from the All – Union Scientific Research Winegrowing and Winemaking Institute (Yalta), from Terter it was brought to Ganja. Several bushes still remain in the "Grape-trading LTD", Ganja. In Ganja, it grows 10-12 days faster than in Tabriz.
Bushes grow rapidly. When grown in espalier, has very good remits.
The flowers are self- pollinated. The fall of flowers is normal. The cluster is medium large and large, dense and rare, coneshaped. The stalk of cluster separates quickly. The cluster and the stalks of seeds are light red. Seeds are large, oval, rarely prolonged. In Terter and Ganja, the seeds of the sort are especially oval, rare, and cone-shaped. The color is greenish-white, when the weight of the grapevine is normal it is light pink in the sun. The skin is thick. When keeping on the bush, most seeds become weak and dirty-weak pink.
Languid is medium firm.
The productivity is normal, sugar is between 16-18%, can't gather much sugar. It is fast ripening table grape.
New vineyards can be set up for the purpose of increasing the fund of fast ripening grape sorts.

TERBASH

Category: The local grape varieties

It is the main clone of Turkmenistan. There were some rows in Rostov, Russia, and Azerbaijan. It was cultivated in the vine collections of Republic – in Goychay, Calilabad districts (8-10 acres).
Bushes grow rapidly.
Flowers are self-pollinating. Cluster is medium large, sometimes large, wide cone shaped, mainly dense and rare. Seeds are medium large and large, slightly oval, sometimes greenish white, and golden yellow in sunshine, covered with dark wax layer. Skin is thick. Languid is fleshy and juicy. Taste is ordinary, sugar and sourness is harmonious. Terbash is early ripening universal table wine sort.
Productivity is high. When the land is less fertile and not enough irrigated, seeds become small and tough.
In the Ashgabad province, Turkmenistan, it has special place due to its structure and beauty.
Of this sort, they produce strong types of wine as Kheres, Portveyn, Madera an Marsola.

TAVKVERI

In the Ganja-Gazakh zone, Tavkveri is also called Kakhet. It has been brought to Azerbaijan from Eastern Georgia. As for S.M.Cholokashvili, it has two types in Georgia. In Kartalini – it is with functional female type of flowers. The sort cultivated in Kakhetiya has self-pollinated flowers.
Tavkveri has been cultivated in all the winegrowing farms in the western zone of Azerbaijan. In Azerbaijan, it is of functional female type.
Bushes grow rapidly.
Clusters are large and medium-large, cone-shaped and winged. Clusters are densely set if pollinated normally and farbetween if knotted in peas. Stalk is very firm.
Seeds are medium, round, deformed in dense clusters, dark-blue covered with thick wax layer. The wax layer gives blue nuance to seeds. Skin is thick and tough. Languid is juicy and tasty with pleasant fruit flavor.
Productivity is high (20-30 tons from one hectare). Gets pollinated naturally if mixed with Bayanishire clone. Sugar productivity is 17-19 percent, sourness – 7-8,5 g/l.

SHIRVANSHAHI

It's a local valuable wine sort of Ashagi Shirvan. Local people have grown this grape transportable (to grow on other gender of trees) since ancient times. According to many features of the plant, we can make a conclusion that wild grapes used to grown in the foothills and plain places of Shirvan. We make sure that the sort was propagated from wild grapes. The sort is successfully grown in Kurdemir district, a little in neighboring regions and in the valley of the Kur River.
Its color is ashy grey because it's covered with thick wavy bloom of shoot crown and young leaves. Bushes grow slowly. It gives good result in tall strong holds. When the shippable table grape is grown, there is no problem with sugar productivity of the plant.
Flowers are pollinated by themselves. But flowers usually fall out (60-70%).
Clusters are medium big, round and round egg-shaped. It has thick wax layer and it's black. Skin is gentle, but firm. Languid is fleshy and a bit mucous. It's separated from the seed with difficulty.
It's grown in mid-grape season.
It's the sort with high sugar productivity.
It's good for making portvein wines of kagor type. Kurdemir is the most popular wine produced from it.

SHIMAL (NORTH) SAPERAVI

The clone has been created as result of cross pollination of Malengr and Amurenzis clones in 1947 in the Novocherkassk All- Russia Scientific-Research Institute of Winegrowing and Winemaking. It is compound mid type hybrid. It is developed in all the CIS countries (Commonwealth of Independent States), including in vine collections of the Azerbaijan Academy of Agriculture.
Bushes are of medium growth.
Flowers are self-pollinated. Medium-clustered and cone shaped. Seeds are small or medium small, oval, dark blue. Its wax layer is thin. Juice is colored and languid is succulent.
High-resistant to frost and Mildew. Mid-early ripen. Typical wine sort. Ripens in mid-September. Sugar level make sup 23 percent and sourness – 7,2 gl at this time. Suitable for table and dessert wine production.

SHARDONE

Category: The local grape varieties

It has been growing in Central and North- Eastern France vineyards since ancient times. It's widely spread in the shore of Black Sea of Krasnodar, in the Ukraine (especially in the Crimea), in Georgia and Moldova. It's been grown in the Agstafa district of Azerbaijan and in other grape vineyards. At the present, a lot of vineyard plantations have been set in Ganja Wine-2. This sort is often called Pineo Shardone what is not completely right.
It differs from all the clones included into the group Pino according to the morphological features. It has similarities in some ways of usage (champagne winemaking).
Bushes have medium growth.
Flowers are pollinated by themselves. Clusters are small and medium, cylindrical or cone shaped, rarely padded, thick and rare. Seeds are medium big, rarely small, greenish white. The skin is thick. Languid is juicy and smooth. Taste is ordinary, very harmonious and fresh.
Shardone is medium ripening wine clone. It's grown in the shore of Black Sea of Krasnodar in an uncovered condition. Productivity is high and stable. Seeds can be firm.
There have been clones of economical importance. The main sort must be cleaned from these clones.
The sort contains high sugar, also with stable sourness. High quality champagne sort is made from it.
